Tried this on today at Rolex’s Madison Ave showroom. I’ll never be the same. It's perfect.

Not a fan. I like Omega much more.

I get the cache, but I'm not a fan.

I dig it, though I’d probably go for stainless or white gold myself.

For all the snobbery, Rolex is a really interesting company...they manufacture the majority of their watches and components themselves, which is pretty unusual in that industry. They’re also not public, but rather held by a trust set up by the founders.

I agree. Rolex gets a lot of flack for their reputation of being the go to for those who just want to show off their wealth but they do make some really nice watches. Although with that said, I would probably go for another manufacture if I was looking for something that wasn’t a diver.

Exactly. Mine has been really solid and reliable, although I wear an IWC more frequently now. Just because people with more money than sense buy them doesn’t mean they’re bad. :-)

I’m always torn on mine. I love my Timex equally as much. The timex keeps better time, but the smoothness of the Rolex movement is amazing.

Given these are completely two different type of watches, but I’m a sucker for completely accurate time.

My sentiments exactly. Which IWC do you have if you don’t mind my asking? I was actually just looking at IWCs on Friday. I dream of a Portuguese or Big Pilot.

Can’t argue with that. I have a Seiko SARB 065 Cocktail Time and while it’s not swiss it’ll get the job done and most people mistake it for a swiss anyways. I used to want accurate time but realized the accuracy didn’t bother me too much as long as it stays within +/- 10 seconds a day I’m okay with it. If I really need the exact time I’ll just use my phone.

Those are both cool, and the Portuguese is gorgeous in person. I actually tried one, but unfortunately it was just too big for my wrist and too expensive to just put on a shelf and stare at. :-)

Mostly I wear an Aquatimer Cousteau with a stainless bracelet from a few years ago. It looks like this one except for the strap:

You have to spend a lot more money than a Timex to get something this inaccurate! :-)

Now that’s a stunner. I remember seeing the IWC section at the Tourneau in Hawaii while I was there. Everything looked so exquisite. My ideal watch collection definitely has to have an IWC after that experience.

Thanks!

It’s a cool / quirky little company. This is the “loudest” watch I have; I usually go for the simple, understated look, but for some reason this one spoke to me. And I was determined to get a lot of wear out of it, so it has its share of little dings and scratches I’m afraid. But better that than leaving it in a safe somewhere!

Nice :) I got Travis a Shinola Runwell Chrono as an engagement present:

I know it’s not really a ‘watch guy’ brand, but he loves it and they’re a big deal in Southeast Michigan.

That’s actually what we were doing today. My girlfriend was picking out a ring she loved at Tiffany’s and I picked out a watch I loved at Rolex and we’re gonna do a little engagement exchange when the time comes.

Awwww, good luck when the time comes! Goes without saying I’m a big fan of mutual engagement gift exchanges :)
